Patch notes, v1.1
Since publishing the initial jam version of the game, I've been working on a few fixes. Some of these were just things that I didn't have time to get into the initial release, but I also made a slew of changes based on watching videos of people playing the game, and based on written feedback in comments. Thanks to everyone who did this, it's been really informative! The changes I made are as follows:
- Implemented a better title screen; credits are on their own screen now, and there's a controls screen and a quit feature; pressing escape on the title screen now quits the game (previously it started the game, for some insane reason).
- Greatly improved pause/restart functionality; all audio now pauses correctly, and all long-form audio gets reset when you return to the main menu. This stops voiceover continuing to play when you restart the game.
- Made some improvements to movement and slope handling; previously this would fall apart at lower frame rates. While it's not quite perfect, it should be a lot better than before (for example, you couldn't really walk up stairs at 30fps).
- Added tutorials for the 3 basic controls that didn't already have tooltips (on top of the ones that appear next to switches). I did consider changing the fact that the arrow keys only move you at walking speed, and removing Shift to run, but instead I just tutorialised this. I also added some crates to the first hallway, to give you something to jump over.
- Downscaling now takes screen resolution into account; previously it was just reducing the number of pixels to 20% regardless of what your screen resolution was, so if you played it at 1920x1080 you'd get 384x216 (intended), but playing it at 4K gave you twice that, at 768x432, which is much higher than the PlayStation could output.
- The ending is less confusing; there is some audio feedback, and the return to title screen is less abrupt.
- Added another spooky event.
- Made a load of tweaks to lighting and camera angles, to make some things a bit more obvious and less confusing.
- Do you believe?
