New Demo build, trailer, and changes to page layout.

Hello, it's been a while! I've been working hard on a full version of The Sirena Expedition, and to that end I've updated the build of the game from the original game jam build to the demo that I created for Steam. While the demo has fundamentally the same structure as the jam game, there are a lot of changes and quality-of-life additions. Some of the major ones are as follows:

  • I restructured the first door puzzle in the spiral staircase room, so that you now go to the observation deck (previously visible from the start of the game, but not accessible) to open the door to the outside of the facility.
  • I changed one of the horror events (the weird alien monolith thing) for something else, and removed another of the horror events (the weird mouth), which I didn't like so much.
  • I added subtitles to the whole game.
  • The game has a full options menu now, which allows you to change the volume levels and display settings, as well as turn subtitles on or off. This can be accessed from the main menu or the pause menu.
  • I made some general fixes to the movement code, so it handles slopes a lot more consistently now, and deals with lower framerates much better.
  • I added a lot more environmental objects to the facility, so it looks a lot less bare.
  • I added variable-height jumps, so holding the jumping button down causes you to jump higher.
  • I fixed a large number of bugs!

The Steam page for the game is now live, so if you'd like to wishlist the game, you can do so here: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1957300/The_Sirena_Expedition/. To bring the itch.io page in line with the Steam page a little, I made some fairly major changes to it. Out with the default Itch theme (finally!) and in with a new, more aquatically appropriate, one!

Oh, and I made a trailer for the game! I'm fairly happy with how this turned out, given my complicated relationship towards modern trailer design, and I hope you'll like it too.

Regarding the full game, I'm at the point in development where I've got a solid idea about what's going to be in it, so I'm basically just getting everything working and implemented. I'm quite excited about some of the additions, and I think they increase the game's scope from the original game jam version nicely.

Anyway, thanks for reading all of this, and have a nice day!

yo what did u use to make this game?

It was made in Unreal Engine 4! Possibly overkill for PS1-style games, but with a bit of effort you can replicate the same visual quirks of that old system.
